Steve Richards!

Steve Richards was a great influence. We were able to speak casually with him about his career and what he did to get there. He got his education at Ramapo and studied music and business. He was aware that he needed to get ahead and made efforts to cultivate opportunities for himself. 

I was amazed by the fact that he would wake up in the very early morning to use transportation from New Jersey to get to his internship in New York. He would wake up at around 3 to 3:45 am and was still taking classes on campus. 

Aside from his internships and schooling, he spoke about his current position as the Promotions Manager at Republic Records. He explained the logistics surrounding his job and what he does on a day to day basis. Then he shifted his focus on the more “fun” aspect of his work.

He "spilled the tea" by telling us about Taylor Swift and the dynamic of his office when she comes in which happens rarely. Richards shared his experience meeting Post Malone for the first time as he casually played video games with his boss. When I asked him about the experience that he feels makes the hard work worth it, he referred to a trip to Los Angeles. All expenses were paid for this trip and he stayed in lavish hotels and had dinner at five star restaurants. His favorite outing being with the Jonas Brothers as they chatted over gourmet meals!

This conference was great insight into the music industry and the work that goes on behind the scenes. The work he does leads to the music I get to listen too! I appreciated learning more about him and his work ethic!
